Should/Shouldn't Something Be Done to Stop Urban Sprawl

Urban Sprawl can be treated as the multifaceted concept that is centered on the extension of low density development. The very definition of the term reinforces the fact that growth of the metropolitan city is inefficient and the reason of traffic congestion. The dicey definition of the term presents a somewhat uncertain meaning. The cultural or the environmental issues associated with the meaning have a bad ring to it. To present the issue in a completely non biased fashion it is necessary to analyze as well as compare the pros and cons of urban sprawl.

The reasons

The points which can be regarded in the discussion of pros are less expensive lands in the outlying areas of the city are affordable to the people, the outskirts often provide better education facilities, the crime rates is much lower in the suburbs and expansion of the society symbolizes a growing economy. But the cons seem to be stronger and nullify the pros. The amenities in the outskirts require a car for every family an utmost necessity. The increased use of automobiles in turn contributes in increasing the level of pollution level. The farmlands and wild habitat are under the threat with construction of roads and highways. The loss is aesthetic to the society. The people are burdened with high tax rate as widespread population calls for diversified strategies by the government agencies and recruitment of more staffs to serve the people living outside the city. The increase in population is regarded as the environmental hazard. The probability of accidents rises and more time needs to be spent on travel.

It can be concluded that as the cons of urban sprawl nullify the cons it is recommended to take necessary actions to stop urban sprawl.
