Article Writing Ideas: Finding Different Types of Materials

When writing an article, be sure that all of your sources and materials are not from one form. It is always recommended to have a blend of articles, books, or websites as references and to avoid only having a list of websites in the bibliography. This way, your research will be well balanced and you will be able to have a well rounded article buffered by varying materials. Here is some advice to follow when gathering your sources and materials for your article.

Books

Books are a great source because they went through a series of publishers, which means that the material at hand has already been fact checked. Still, there are some things to keep in mind when deciding if you should use a book for a source material. One of these is evaluating the author’s credentials and determining if the publisher is an academic press. This information can be found in the title page of the book, and will be able to let you determine if you can use the book as a potential material source for your article. In addition, it helps to look at the book objectively and determine if there is a biased opinion of the author that will ultimately make the information in your article misleading. If there is data supporting evidence of what the author is saying, this will prove to be a good source for you to use in your article.

Scholarly Articles

Scholarly articles are a great source of information for academic research that can help you write your own article. It is relatively simple to find scholarly articles available in two main formats: print and electronic. There are full-text databases available online that will ultimately aid you in finding the right scholarly article that will help you write your own piece. Keep in mind the article citations that you will need to include in your own bibliography for your article.

Websites

While there is a lot of information available on websites on the internet, it might not be the most reliable source material to include in your article. If you are not sure whether or not a website is a legitimate source or not, look at what type of domain the website has (.edu, .gov, .org) which will provide you some content clues about the information. Also make sure that the web site is relevant to your research topic and that the level of information reaches your website needs.
