What to know before Writing a Gun Control Essay
Elected or appointed “Gun Control” as an essay topic? Having trouble getting started? First, decide if the essay will be informative or argumentative. Once that is out of the way they can move on to brainstorming or the research phase.
Brainstorming or research is the most important factor from this point on. There are so many facts, statistics, laws and debates that will supply enough information or ammunition to support the essay. When doing research be sure to keep in mind the purpose of the essay.
The thesis statement is the next step and is standard no matter what direction the essay will go in. A good example of a strong “Gun Control” thesis statement would read something like this: “Second amendment rights versus new gun control laws. Maintaining the right to bear arms.” The writer should set the tone so that they grab the reader’s attention. Gun control is such a controversial issue, this would not be unobtainable.
In the body of their “Gun Control” essay is where they want to distinctly express their arguments. Are they for or against Gun control? Informing the reader about new and old Gun Control laws? Is this a statistical essay? Never forget to include facts in the essay, the facts will back up the writers’ point of view. How does the writer feel? They should express how they feel about the subject and stand by it. Maybe even play both sides of the fence to shake up the reader then take a definite stance. Approach the topic with an open mind and explore all avenues.
When concluding the essay try to transition smoothly by summarizing some of our major facts and points. This transition is called the closing statement. The closing statement should be as intriguing as the beginning. Do not lose the reader in the body of an essay. An example of a great closing statement would read as follows. “As an ethical tax paying citizen, I don’t agree with the penalization of my right to bear arms. Citizens like myself should not feel the backlash of the tightened laws that should only effect the criminal element in America. Tampering with the constitution is a slap in the face of good and honest tax paying citizens.”
The closing statement is written but there is one more step. Sure, following these techniques will give the reader an awesome essay. Before clicking save and print let’s review the first draft of the essay. Read the essay from beginning to end, everything should flow. Grammar and spelling should be checked, facts, statistics, and the point of view is duly supported and addressed. Now, the Gun Control essay is complete.
