Learning how to write college essays faster
It’s difficult for some students to get a flow going when they write their college essays, but with some help following the right steps, you can learn how to meet your deadline easier than when you first began writing. Essays contain sections that need to be constructed in certain ways that correspond with their counterparts. Understanding this process will put you miles ahead of your current writing abilities and assist you in pumping out good essays faster.
It’s important to jot down your key points for your essay before you start writing, but instead of doing this in a notebook, try note cards instead. Use one note card per future paragraph and one each for the introduction and conclusion of your paper. This will make your referencing a lot quicker when you start writing.
Form sentence connectors
But don’t start writing yet! First, put your filled-in note cards in the correct order and write additional key words and phrases that connect the other key points in a way that makes them flow well. Guess what! You’ve already done half the work. Now you just need to fill in the blanks.
Write to the imaginary ignorant
Make sure you write your content in such a way that it could be given to someone other than your professor and still be understood clearly. Many students make the mistake of writing to their professors who know the background of their subject, but this is not the point of an essay assignment. Your professor will feign ignorance when reading your paper.
When writing, keep your note cards nearby and refer to them as often as you need. Don’t rush. Your essay will actually form quicker if you are calm while writing it.
Let others do the work for you
Now comes the editing. But you’ve got another assignment waiting to be done, so rather let someone else do the work for you. Print three copies of your essay out and gather three red pens. Hand one of each to three people and ask them to brutally mark your paper. When you get them back, ask them if they feel like you’ve made them an expert on your topic. If not, your essay is lacking information. Look at their editing and opinions and finish it off with any necessary corrections.
This process should have your essay done in about half an hour. The more you write, the quicker it will go.
